Project Summary

The Thompson Covered Bridge was built in 1832 and is one of the oldest covered bridges in the United States. Hoyle, Tanner inspected, analyzed and designed scour countermeasures for the bridge which were required due to the removal of a downstream dam. The scour countermeasures included underpinning of the stone pier and installation of stone stream barbs (designed by others). The project also included installation of a deluge sprinkler system within the bridge. Near-full time construction inspection, shop drawing review and construction administration was also provided.

Funding for this project was through the NHDOT Municipal Bridge Aid Program.
