Project Summary

Airports are an essential component of the Connecticut transportation system. Protecting the valuable infrastructure at these airports through progressive pavement management is very important to the Connecticut Airport Authority (CAA), and that is the focus of this airport pavement condition index (PCI) project. This project includes visiting Bradley International Airport to ascertain existing pavement conditions in accordance with the FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 150/5380-6B, Guidelines and Procedures for Maintenance of Airport Pavements and ASTM D5340, Standard Test Method for Airport Pavement Condition Index Surveys. The collected inventory and PCI data will be used to prepare maps, establish an airport pavement management system (APMS) database using the PAVER™ database, develop multi-year maintenance and rehabilitation (M&R) plans, and produce project reports and a web-based, interactive data exchange application (IDEA) tool.

The Scope also includes developing pavement classification numbers (PCNs) in accordance with the FAA AC 150/5335-5B, Standardized Method of Reporting Airport Pavement Strength – PCN  for all airfield pavement at Bradley International.
