As the general airport consultant, Hoyle, Tanner was tasked with updating the Lake Wales Regional Airport’s long range Master Plan. Since the previous Airport Layout Plan (ALP) Update, the airport was devastated by a major hurricane which leveled much of the existing infrastructure. As a result, this master planning effort took a fresh look at the airport, its activities, potential, and strategic approaches to providing the most public value now and into the future. As part of this project, Hoyle, Tanner’s planners and engineers considered innovative and far-reaching ideas resulting in a Master Plan which is flexible, balanced, and specifically tailored to the needs of the City of Lake Wales and the regional flying community. The resultant document provided a comprehensive analysis of airport facilities, determination of trends affecting the airport, analysis of potential sectors of the aviation industry having strong potential to utilize the airport, and identification of new opportunities for expanded aviation activity and tenant relationships. The final Master Plan provided the City of Lake Wales with a long-term vision of the airport facility focusing on both airside and landside development, was supplemented by a well formatted and easily understood ALP, and guided by a detailed 20-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
