Project Summary

As a result of a wildlife strike between a deer and an aircraft on take-off the Tweed Airport Authority proposed the construction of additional fencing to restrict wildlife from encroaching on active runways. A 15-30- foot-wide corridor was constructed to allow for the installation and maintenance of 13,500 linear feet of the fence line. A portion of the improvements were constructed along the property line through fresh water and tidal wetlands and along an existing sewer access road. This project required the coordination and preparation of the following environmental documentation from the State of Connecticut agencies.

  • Environmental Assessment
  • General Permit (GP), Inland Water Resources Division (IWRD) for the Wildlife Hazard Deterrent Fence
  • General Permit (GP), Inland Water Resources Division (IWRD) for the Access Road
  • Flood Management Certificate, (IWRD) for the Wildlife Hazard Deterrent Fence
  • Flood Management Certificate, (IWRD) for the Access Road
  • Office of Long Island Sound Programs (OLISP) Certificate of Permission (COP) for the Wildlife Hazard Deterrent Fence and Access Road
