Project Summary

Hoyle, Tanner provided a detailed structural condition evaluation and designed structural repairs in the crawl space of an historic mill built in 1897. The myriad of structural conditions encountered included: fire damage, timber rot, severe corrosion of structural steel columns and posts, masonry deterioration, spalled concrete, dewatering system deficiencies, foundation leaks, undermined foundations, loss of structural support at floors, and pre-existing repairs that were not code compliant. Access to the crawl space was initially restricted due to air quality concerns, so conditions were modeled in three dimensions to help the contractor visualize the scope of repair work, and to estimate quantities of repair materials.

Special inspection services were provided during construction. Our engineers enforced the requirements of the construction documents, and worked with contractors to address conditions uncovered throughout the course of construction.
