Project Summary

Hoyle, Tanner provided complete design engineering services for the Access Road Bridge over the North Canal in Lawrence. The existing bridge superstructure was replaced with precast, prestressed, box beams spanning over 33m (108 feet). High strength concrete was utilized for the box beams in order to maintain the required freeboard over the canal. The deck was built integrally with the new abutments, which was constructed behind the existing historic canal walls. The project included capping existing stone canal walls, as well as design of roadway approach work.
