Staff Member Fran Weaver Avoids Being Locked Up!

Staff member, Fran Weaver, had the pleasure of participating in MDA's Manchester Lockup to help "Jerry's Kids®".  In order to avoid being locked up on August 22, the judge set her bail at $650.  According to an article in the Lock-Up Ledger, $57 will provide one minute of research into finding a cure for MD!  Fran set a personal goal to raise not only her bail, but the additional $57 as well and made her plea to friends and fellow colleagues.

Well, the warrant for Fran’s arrest was executed at 3:00pm on the 22nd.  Rumor had it that once you go before the judge, they have the option of upping your bail amount.  In the weeks preceeding, Fran worked hard at collecting what would turn out to be above and beyond her bail amount for a total of $770, so she when the officers came, she went without a fight as they took her away in cuffs in the hopes that her exceeded efforts would suffice!  The judge obviously perceived her hard work and paroled her right away!

From Fran herself: “When I go before the judge, I’ll feel great knowing that so many people took the time and trouble to help me to help those fighting the battle with this disease.  THANK YOU ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED...  On behalf of the families MDA serves, thank you!

Donations to this event help MDA continue the important fight against muscular dystrophy.  MDA serves people in our community with neuromuscular disease by providing clinics, support groups, assistance with the purchase and repair of wheelchairs, braces and communication devices, and summer camp for kids. MDA also funds research grants to help find treatments and cures for some 43 neuromuscular diseases that affect people of all ages, right here in our community.   Go to www.mdausa.org to learn more about how you can get locked up..
