Hoyle, Tanner Staff Donates 74 Pillows to/Spends a Day at Camp Spaulding

Pillows, pillows, pillows!  To help support Child and Family Services’ (CFS) summer camp, Camp Spaulding, Hoyle, Tanner held a pillow drive.  The goal was to donate 50 pillows to the camp.  Well we did not reach our goal, we exceeded it!  Hoyle, Tanner staff contributed either actual pillows or funds towards the purchase of pillows and after all was said and done, there were 74 in total!!

Camp Spaulding is an overnight camp providing a down to earth approach to refreshing the spirit, challenging the body, sharpening the mind...and inspiring friendships. It serves over 300 campers, boys and girls ages 8 to 14, in four camp sessions throughout the summer.  Children from low to moderate income families are eligible to attend the camp according to a sliding-fee scale.  Campers who attend Camp Spaulding will go home with their pillows at the end of the session.

For more information on Camp Spaulding and additional programs offered through Child and Family Services of New Hampshire, visit www.cfsnh.org.

From the CFS website…

“Dream big…for children who’ve been abused or neglected, for teens who don’t have a place to call home, for families struggling to put food on the table, and for babies who are starting life at a disadvantage…with your help, the possibilities are endless!”

Update:

As a result of our donation, Camp Spaulding invited Hoyle, Tanner staff to spend a day at camp!  Several employees spent the good part of a morning and enjoyed lunch with the campers.  The staff there gave a warm welcome and are genuinely helpful, happy, and truly inspirational!

The Hoyle, Tanner members sat with one group gathered in the staging area of the gym, sitting around in a circle on the floor in dim lighting while the rain tapped the roofing to experience some scary ghost story telling.   A ghost even came and sat down to listen in!  Actually, he was in costume in the spirit (no pun intended) of their themed “Halloween day” and dance that evening.  They got to see “girls with tools”, or actually in this case it was more “kids with tools” since it was a group of boys.  This program offers instruction on building with power tools.  They’ve made sheds, adirondack chairs, and were working on picnic tables for the camp.  Then it was on to lunch to get to know some of the campers.  Hoyle, Tanner’s Fran Weaver listened intently as one camper told her how she kissed a frog to see if it would turn into a prince.  All things that these campers would not experience without such a camp as Camp Spaulding!
